Dr Kerry Taylor CV

Dr Kerry Taylor is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with full UK registration with the Health Professions Council, the British Psychological Society and the Division of Clinical Psychology.  She is a qualified Play Therapist and worked with children and families for ten years before gaining her doctorate in 2007 from South Thames, University of Canterbury Christ Church. Dr Taylor has worked as a Clinical Lead in a Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and is a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in the NHS.

With a special interest in parenting, parental mental health and parent-child attachment, Dr Taylor has developed her work with families with young children, and provides Attachment training to multi-disciplinary colleagues. A central focus of Dr Taylor’s work is with families with complex needs where there are risk and child protection issues.  For the last two years, Dr Taylor has run a Clinical Psychology private practice which includes providing expert witness reports.  She has been trained as an expert witness in Family Law at Cardiff University Bond Solon.

Specialist Areas of Assessment

Dr Taylor specialises in providing comprehensive psychological assessments of pre-school age children and assessment of mental health, risk or diagnostic assessment.

Family Intervention Work

She offers family consultation and therapeutic work with the whole family.  Particular interests and strengths are in consulting to and supporting families, attachment, parenting, and working with challenging behaviour.

Individual Therapy with Children

An experienced Play Therapist, Dr Taylor has worked extensively with children and young people of all ages.  She has undertaken specialist training to work with a wide range of difficulties such as trauma, abuse, separation and bereavement, obsessive compulsive symptoms or anxiety using different models (e.g. CBT, EMDR, Narrative Therapy, Systemic Approach).

Consultation around a child and/or consultation to professionals

With consent, Dr Taylor will liaise with the system around a child (e.g. school, other professionals) in order to ensure the best possible support for a child.

Consultation or supervision can be offered to professionals in their work to support their practice.

Training for professionals and parents

Dr Taylor offers a wide range of training such as parenting courses and groups, mental health awareness, guidance for medical staff, training on attachment, supporting refugee and asylum seeking children, play and development.  She can design and deliver training based on the needs of an organisation or group of professionals.
