Dr Simon Draycott

Dr Simon Draycott has worked for the last thirteen years at Broadmoor Hospital.  He regularly undertakes forensic risk assessments specialising in the assessment of violence, domestic violence and sexual risk.  He has an in-depth knowledge of mental illness, personality disorder, trauma and substance abuse to forensic risk and their contribution to forensic risk.  He regularly reports to Mental Health Review Tribunals, the Criminal and Family Courts.

He embarked on his career as a group psychotherapist before qualifying as a clinical psychologist in 2003.  Since this time he has worked in the high secure Broadmoor Hospital with mentally disordered offenders and sexual offenders.  He initially worked in the Dangerous and Severe Personality Disorder Service where he honed his understanding of personality disorder and how this contributes to forensic risk.  More recently he has worked in the Mental Illness Directorate developing his understanding of severe mental illness, including psychotic or bi-polar disorders.

He has an in-depth knowledge of forensic risk assessment through his specialist training in structured risk assessments for personality, violence and sexual violence.  He has also undergone specialist training to understand treatment readiness and when patients can address their forensic risk.

He is a certified Schema Therapist and also trained in Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and a registered member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.

Since May 2013 He has also worked as a senior teaching fellow in clinical psychology at the University of Surrey, where he is responsible for training doctoral students of clinical psychology.
