Dr Silke Newman

Dr Newman is Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of post-doctoral experience working in several NHS trusts and is highly committed to working with individuals with intellectual disability. She provides learning disabilities and cognitive assessments, autism and dementia screening, capacity assessments, parenting assessments and expert witness reports relating to adults with intellectual disability (learning disability).

She has extensive experience of working with families, carers who support individuals with learning disabilities providing training on attachment, mental health, autism, interpersonal difficulties and positive behavioural support based on the person as well as providing consultancy and advice on person centred care-planning with regard to mental health issues. She has advised on risk assessment, planning and management.

Silke has extensive experience in working with complex cases with comorbid presentations/diagnoses including psychiatric conditions, autism, communication problems, sensory issues, mild moderate and profound/severe learning disability and risk. Silke provides an integrative Therapy approach depending on client needs and presentation drawing on Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Cognitive analytic therapy, compassionate focussed therapy, psycho-educative approaches and bio-psycho-social formulation for clients going through court / legal processes, live in the community or those who have been admitted to inpatient services. As well as being self-employed Silke is working with individuals with intellectual disability as a Consultant Applied Psychologist Locality Lead employed by Tees, Esk and Wear Valley Foundation Trust.
