Dr Marc Desautels

Dr Marc Desautels is a clinical psychologist specialising in the assessment and treatment of adults with complex mental health and personality problems, routinely assessing forensic risk.  He currently works with mentally disordered offenders in an NHS medium secure unit.  Dr Desautels has a special interest in the assessment and treatment of sexual and violent offenders and focusing on their underlying trauma.  He is a specialist in trauma and PTSD regularly reporting in cases of personal injury.

Dr Marc Desautels started his career in academia, lecturing in forensic and counselling psychology.  He qualified as a clinical psychologist at the University of Birmingham.  He developed his clinical skills through both his NHS roles and private practice giving him a broad based understanding of working therapeutically with individuals and groups.

He has worked with mentally disordered and sexual offenders since 2008 and continues to treat sexual offenders using the Good Lives Model in medium secure settings.  He continues to work therapeutically with patients with severe and enduring mental health and personality disorders.

He has applied his in-depth knowledge of forensic risk to the understanding and assessment of adult risk and the risk of harm that parents can present to children.  He regularly gives evidence in the family and criminal courts, using his profound knowledge of evidence-based assessments of risk, personality and mental disorder.  Through his interest in trauma and post traumatic stress disorders he also presents evidence in cases of personal injury and runs a trauma clinic as part of his private practice.
