Prof. Peter Rankin

I have prepared medico-legal reports for the courts since 2004. I retired from the NHS and academic in 2019 to conduct full-time medico-legal work. Previously I held various senior positions within the two sister organisations of Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) NHS Trust and UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health for over 20 years as Associate Professor, Consultant Paediatric Neuropsychologist, Senior Clinical Lecturer, Senior Research Fellow, and Director of the UK’s Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology Training Programme.

Clinically, as well being an employee of GOSH, I have been employed by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and the national specialist ‘Young Epilepsy’ School and Further Education College. My clinical work has included: specialist diagnostic work developing novel functional neuroimaging paradigms to allow greater understanding of children’s brain plasticity to guide neurosurgical procedures for complex epilepsies; diagnosing complex neurodevelopmental and social-communication disorders in national specialist multi-disciplinary teams; providing consultation on the long-term re-integration of children with brain injuries back into community and school settings as part of a multi-disciplinary Head Injury Rehabilitation Team; working within school classrooms and FE College to advise teachers, support staff and allied health professions on adapting educational provision and rehabilitation for children and young adults with neuropsychological impairments.
